The first thing you will probably ever hear about Western Kenya is that it’s Obama’s Homeland. You will then be told exactly where to get off the Matatu to go and shake his Grandmother’s hand. A few quick quick Google searches will tell you the only reason international media has ever cared about the area is because of Obama’s popularity. After spending eight weeks there working for Christian Legal Education Aid and Research with Humera Jabir, I got to know a different side of the area.
